Through propagation and out-planting of areas where healthy coral cover needs to be boosted or retained

Through a special device (Coralclip®) that quickly fixes coral to the reef enabling planting at scales never previously possible

Through building knowledge of coral growth and survival to ensure re-planted coral is resilient to future stress

Through enabling local communities who depend on healthy reefs with new approaches to actively add coral beyond natural recovery rates

 

The Coral Nurture Program is a world-first partnership of coral scientists with reef tourism operators, who grow and plant coral alongside removal of harmful coral predators like the Crown of Thorns starfish as part of essential reef management. Operators advise tourists on the best ways to safely and more sustainably experience the Great Barrier Reef.

 

Is their approach effective? Well, during an 18-month ‘Proof of concept’ period, the CNP helped plant more than 20,000 corals across a range of 9 major reef sites – and they have ambitions to boost this effort to 100,000 corals over the next couple years.

 

Now thanks to a few sips from you legends, we’ve helped plant 7,500 coral as a result, all helping to continue the efforts and research of the CNP.
